Webull Review

Positioned as Robinhood’s biggest new competitor in the commission-free investing space, Webull made its debut in 2018. The mobile-based brokerage gained a considerable market share in a relatively short time due to its many improvements over Robinhood’s simplistic trading platform.

Webull, unlike Robinhood, is a full-service stock trading brokerage that offers technical indicators, fundamental tech analysis tools, margin trading, and premium research services.

Webull’s built-in real-time market data module, analyst ratings, and financial calendars make it a comprehensive trading platform.

What Makes Webull Different?

● Virtual trading tool: Webull features “Paper Trading”, a trade simulator that allows new investors to dip their toes before beginning to trade with real money. In the platform, users can trade with up to one million dollars worth of virtual money.

● Webull 4.0 for Desktop: Now Webull desktop users have free access to over 45 powerful widgets, a highly customizable trading layout, nasdaq total view, and many new features you can read about here.

● Financial calendar: If you’re a seasoned investor, Webull’s financial calendars could be a blessing. You don’t have to go through multiple third-party services to track various company events, such as IPOs, earnings reports, dividend schedules, and other relevant updates.

● Price alerts: Webull features a price alert option, which allows you to track the price movements of interested companies. Webull will notify you when a specific price level is reached, giving you real-time, actionable data.

● Short selling: Short selling is another feature unique to Webull. You can engage in commission-free short selling through Webull’s brokerage app.

● Sign Up Bonuses: Unlike Robinhood, Webull has been giving all new users who deposit $5 or more 2 free stocks worth up to $2300! There’s no minimum deposit amount and no withdrawal fees, visit Webull now to claim your free stocks!

How Does Webull Make Money?

One of the ways Webull makes money is margin interest on margin accounts. This platform also offers paid subscriptions to real-time global market data, but the in-depth analysis tools are still free. Right now our readers can try a free 3 month subscription to Nasdaq TotalView here.

Virtual Stock Trading Simulator

The virtual trading tool or (paper trading), is simulated trading through an account that has the same features as a real trading account. The trading simulator uses “fake money,” so no real transactions occur. This is a great way to practice before using real money in the market. This is great for beginners getting into the stock market because it’s the best way to learn. What makes it even better is that Webull offers paper trading accounts to everyone, completely free.

Financial Calander

  • Upcoming IPO’s (initial public offering)
  • Which companies are paying out dividends
  • Which companies are reporting earnings the following month
  • This tool is only offered by Webull

Who Should Use Webull?

While Webull offers commission-free trading, it’s analysis tools, technical indicators, and charts covering dozens of indicators are ideal for intermediate and advanced traders. However, beginners can practice trading using the virtual stock trading simulator making Webull ideal for investors who prefer to manage their own investments online.

What Is Robinhood?

Robinhood is the app that literally turned the trading industry around by offering commission-free trading services. Robinhood was the first trading platform to enable users to trade stocks, ETFs, options, cryptocurrencies, and additional assets commission-free.

Robinhood - Smartphone

What Makes Robinhood Different?

  • The first platform to offer zero-commission trading: Robinhood is the pioneer in the zero-commission trading industry, forcing its competition and legacy brokerage houses to cut their trading costs.
  • Fine for beginners: Robinhood is a decent trading platform for beginner investors. Its simple design, limited technical analysis tools, and indicators make the platform uncomplicated for new traders.
  • Robinhood Gold: Robinhood Gold is the paid service from the brokerage, Robinhood charges users a monthly to use margin trading and access research reports right inside the app, these services are currently completely free to use with Webull.

How Does Robinhood Make Money?

  • Robinhood charges users a monthly fee of $5 for access to all of Robinhood’s features with a “Robinhood Gold Account”
  • Robinhood also charges a 5% yearly fee on any margin used above $1,000
  • Interest on idle cash
  • Selling orders to market makers

Who Should Use Robinhood?

There is no doubt about the revolutionary role of Robinhood in zero-commission trading, but the platform is built for beginner investors only. It falls short on technical and fundamental analysis tools active traders require frequently. Additionally, when compared with Webull, Robinhood doesn’t offer virtual trading, built-in earnings or other company news, and price alerts, making it less desirable for most traders.

Our Verdict

Both Robinhood and Webull stand true on their zero-commission trading promise. However, Robinhood’s much more limited functionality and tendency to glitch occasionally leaves investors wanting more. Over the past three years Webull has continuously updated their stock trading features giving investors much more of what they actually want, for free. This is why throughout 2021 Webull has been my daily stock trading app of choice.
